Who I Am
Hello! My name is Shaun. I live in Akron, Ohio with my beautiful, wonderful wife and two human children. I’m a mobile developer at O’Reilly Media where I spend a lot of my time thinking about how people read and spend their time on mobile devices.
I’ve had a computer since second grade and haven’t been able to separate myself from one since. My first computer was a 386sx my mom bought from Sears that ran a now-obscure DOS-based operating system called GeoWorks. I remember tinkering around with QBasic files to change things in my games. I installed a hex editor at some point (looking back I still don’t how I found one or had one on a floppy) and flipped random bits in executables to see if I could make things change. In ’98, my 9th grade self bought a book called Create Your First Web Page In a Weekend and I’ve been developing ever since.
I’m a Christian, but I’m not the kind you’re probably thinking about. I’m a normal guy who tries hard to let people know they are loved first and foremost. It’s part of who I am, so that’s why I mention it here. If you’ve got questions, let me know. I promise I won’t bite.
I’m first and foremost an iOS developer. I’ve been working with it since 2008. So, the majority of my posts will be focused towards mobile development. However, I also love the Web and programming in general. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few posts related to that sneak in as well.
There’s not too much else left to say. I’ll probably come back here at some point and edit this to add more. Until then, here are a few mildly interesting facts about me and my life:
- My favorite board game is Scrabble
- I like to roast my own coffee beans (when I’m not too lazy)
- I like nachos
- I like to run in races
- I think George Carlin is the best narrator in Thomas the Tank Engine history (Remember: two human children)
- Objective-C and Swift are my favorite languages
